The electrolytes used in this application vary widely in temperature and salt concentration. From cold water in the northern Atlantic Ocean to the warm water of the Indian Ocean and from brackish water to seawater with 30 g salt/l. The anodes also have to be able to withstand de-scaling by means of acid rinse, high electrolyte velocity or reversal of polarity. For this wide variety of circumstances and electrolytes, we have developed specific and highly suitable Titanium anodes.

Anodes in Seawater Electrolysis

The availability of the Titanium anode has been a major break-through for the electrolysis of seawater. The most important applications are the prevention of mussel- and algae growth on ship hulls, in cooling water installations of, for instance, power plants.

For an efficient chloride production and for long lifetimes, the following types of anodes are available:

Titanium with a Ruthenium Mixed Metal Oxide coating

Titanium with a Platinum-Iridium Oxide coating

Platinised Titanium

Usually seawater contains 18,980 mg/l chloride ion and 10,561 mg/l of sodium ion, using the special electrode for seawater electrolysis can produce available chlorine(including HClO, ClO -, Cl2), It is a kind of broad-spectrum fungicide, can kill the bacteria, algae and shellfish in seawater, so it can be used for prevent marine life to stick and grow in the pipe walls.

Application

Seawater anti-fouling

Coastal power plants, chemical plants, offshore platforms and other facilities require large amounts of seawater for cooling water. But the seawater contains some organisms that often stick to the pipe walls. These Biological fouling affecting the heat exchange efficiency and safety of the facility.

Seawater eletrochlorination system can effective against and prevent marine life to stick and grow in the pipe walls, and it has the advantage of safety, convenience and low operating cost.

Seawater electrolysis antifouling equipment uses electrode to electrolyze seawater to produce available chlorine(NaClO),with sodium chloride in natural seawater. Available chlorine(NaClO) can kill sea creatures and sea creature’s spores and larvae to avoids any sea creatures adhering and growing in pipeline and cooling water system.This method sterilizes thoroughly and can diapose a large quantity of seawater, no pollution to environment.

The Electrolysis antifouling machine is widely used on ship, drilling rig, seaside power plant, nuclear power plant and chemical industries.

System Configuration

1) sodium hypochlorite Generating unit:

Including electrolyzing cell, pipeline, valve, pipe supports and related accessories.

2) sodium hypochlorite Storage and Dosing unit:

Including sodium hypochlorite storage tank, dosing pump and pipeline, valve, pipe support and related accessories.

3) Washing Unit:

Including acid washing tank, acid washing pump, and pipeline, valve, support and accessories.

4) Control Unit:

Including control equipments for the whole seawater electrolyzing sodium hypochlorite generating system and dosing system, pipeline, valve, accessories.

5) Power supply:

Including transformer side power supply(AC380V,60Hz,3phse AC power), other equipments rated power supply(380V/220V 3phase, 4 line, AC power), and other accessories and valves.

6) Operation Method

1,Automatic running with remote control (within 100m). Each set of sodium hypochlorite generating system can operate separately, active chlorine producing capacity is 500 kg/h (chlorine ion in seawater is >15000mg/L).

2, Active chlorine producing capacity is adjustable with 50%,70%,90% by regulating the current of electrolysing cell.
